Getting Fit for Treatment
There are a few simple lifestyle changes that you and your partner are advised to make in order to boost your chances of conception. It may also lower the risk of complications during pregnancy and will contribute to the future health of you and your baby.
-
Diet
A nutritious diet and reducing caffeine will help you feel fitter and more energetic and ensure your body is healthy. Being overweight or underweight can effect your chances of achieving a pregnancy.
-
Supplements
Women planning a pregnancy should take folic acid to decrease the chances of spina bifida.
-
Smoking
Smoking has been linked to infertility, early menopause in women, sperm problems in men and lower success rates in IVF. Try to give up or at least cut down.
-
Alcohol
Drinking too much alcohol can effect the quality of sperm and also increase the risk of miscarriage. You are advised to limit your intake or ideally stop.
Complementary Therapies
CARE supports the combination of conventional and complimentary approaches to treatment. Many patients have told us they feel therapies such as acupuncture, aromatherapy, reflexology and yoga help them to relax and give a sense of wellbeing.
